Basotect®, the melamine resin foam from BASF, is now certified compliant with the Öko-Tex® Standard 100.

Tests carried out by an independent testing institute have shown that Basotect® G satisfies the currently applicable human ecological requirements of the Standard in Product Class III. Basotect® G is thus deemed harmless to health in processing and use; this means that no substances hazardous to health are released and absorbed through the skin.

The certificate is in each case awarded for one year. The Oekotex certification centre may demand renewed product testing at any time to verify that the product characteristics remain compliant as certified. Basotect® G was tested for extractable heavy metals, banned azo dyes, formaldehyde, organic tin compounds, chlorinated benzols and phenols, perfluorinated compounds, plasticisers and highly volatile organic compounds. Foam articles are also checked for emissions, to exclude possible emission of pollutants into the room air. Basotect® G results lie clearly below the limits.

Oeko-Tex Standard 100

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a globally uniform test and certification system for raw, intermediate and end product textiles in all stages of processing, with the goal of achieving comprehensive freedom from harmful substances. The tests for harmful substances include legally prohibited and regulated substances, chemicals suspected to be hazardous to health and parameters for health care. The tests are carried out by approved and independent textile research and test institutes. More than 82 000 certificates have been issued to date. The certificates may be recognised by the slogan “Confidence in textiles” and the test number and name of the testing institute.
